I recently got interviewed by JT O’Donnell, of Careerealism.com, about Extreme Personal Branding.
We talked about some of the differences between how celebrities brand themselves and how we can do it (as job seekers).
You can watch the full interview here if you like.
I want to make abundantly clear that normal, everyday people like you and I, really need to be excellent at what we do. And this excellence must be the root of all branding.
All of these tricks and tools we learn about do n0thing unless we can walk the walk.
So yes, Twitter rocks as a branding tool. So does video.
So does inventing your own language (Warlock, winning and Tiger Blood).
But so what! If you don’t know where you are going, and what you are trying to accomplish, then it’s just an ego exercise.
You will not get 2,000,000 Twitter followers in 4 days unless you already have a very successful career to draw from.
I’d really like to know what you think of this interview, Charlie Scheen as a personal branding role model and other topcis. Let’s talk!
charlie sheen as a personal branding role model? are u serious joshua? perhaps if u want to brand yourself as another Ted Bundy.
the guy threatened to cut off his wife’s head and mail it to her mother in a box. how about that for a personal brand? think it would work for any of us? it didn’t do him any favours…. he’s got followers but for all the wrong reasons.
Lisa, You really should watch the whole thing. I’m not saying Charlie Sheen is a personal branding role model at all. The interviewer certainly implied that with her questions, but I was very clear that what he is doing is not practical for the average non-celeb. Also, FYI, I don’t follow him on Twitter because of his blatant misogyny.
