If you are getting ready to embark on your journey to college and need help deciding what to study, consider nursing as a career. Nursing is a fulfilling and lucrative job that is sure to open many doors for you in the future.

Not to mention, there are always plenty of nursing jobs to go around. Aside from being satisfying, and exciting, and it’s one of the few careers that provide consistent job security, there are plenty of other reasons for you to consider nursing as a career.

1. Various Training Options

One of the best things about choosing nursing as a career is that there are several ways to get your certifications and training. You can either major in nursing in college, or you can take other courses related to nursing if you have already completed your bachelor’s degree in a different field.

Best of all, many of these classes are offered at night or even online which means you can easily get them done at your own pace and on your own schedule. Regardless of the type of lifestyle you lead, a nursing career is fully attainable.

2. It Is an Exciting Career

Nursing is a job for anyone who is looking to help others while also getting to move around a lot and meet new people. As mentioned previously, nursing is a career that will certainly put some excitement into your life. It is more than just sitting behind a desk and staring at a computer screen all day.

Instead, you are on your feet constantly talking to patients or performing procedures. Although working as a nurse won’t seem like a tv show all the time, it is certainly a much more exciting career than say, being an accountant.

3. Job Security

Another reason to consider nursing as a job is because you can rest assured that you will always have a job. Nurses are always in high demand. We saw evidence of this during the pandemic, and there is constantly a shortage of them.

In fact, nursing is considered one of the most in-demand jobs in the country. Regardless of what happens with the economy, and no matter how many robots are created to replace jobs, nursing jobs will always be available. With nursing as a career, you’ll never have to worry about whether or not you’ll be able to find a job.

4. You Can Make a Difference

A nursing job is a lot of responsibility because oftentimes, people’s lives are in your hands. You also have to deal with patients who may be undergoing scary and painful treatments. These scared patients may even need a little bit of reassurance from you.

As a nurse, it is your job to treat your patients with compassion and show them comfort whenever they need it. While on the job, you will have the opportunity to leave a positive mark on someone’s life—something they will surely remember for the rest of their lives.

5. You Have Options

If you end up choosing nursing as a career, you also have the option to decide what type of nurse you want to be. For example, you can be a pediatric nurse and help take care of children.

Or you can be a nurse that works specifically in the psychiatry unit or one that cares for cancer patients.

If you end up going down one route and decide that it is not for you, you can always go back and switch to a different nursing path as most nursing degrees qualify you for just about any specialty.
