Video Resume Ideas

Originally posted in 2010…

Hey Gang,

I just want to say that I love my Mac. I used it to put together a pretty slick video résumé yesterday in just a few hours. I often talk about standing out from the crowd, and I believe video is the way to do that. That being said, I am a total Rookie video maker. This was my first-ever produced video; I know it probably falls short of your standards, but hey, at least I gave it a shot. Right! and that’s what I’d like you to do.

In fact, I will be having a contest. So stay tuned!

This went out to subscribers yesterday morning.

The daily issue lands at 6am with one story like this and one thing to do about it. Free.

JoshuaWaldman smitpatel Thanks Josh I just emailed you.

  2. smitpatel Hi there. That is a cool concept, sending a personalized video cover letter. I’ve seen this done for sales. I’d like to check out the platform and maybe feature it. Would you please email me.

    You should checkout sayhellothere.com.

We’re taking the video resume a notch above.

i like the overall presentation and ideas joshua. i have never made a video cv or resume or what have you myself so it was very impressive.

    what i liked:
    the music
    the girl’s laugh
    the titles
the samples of your work (eg you instructing a large audience and the online blog)
    the changes in scenery
    camera angles
the visuals (the flashing lights, the dates)
    the quote from shelley
    your list of clients

What I wasn’t as crazy about:
the audio wasn’t the best when you were speaking – hard to hear what you were saying
6 people signed up for a 2 hour workshop – is that a big number for a workshop?
when you say interviews with power users – what is a power user? (I’m a bit dense – I need it spoon fed)
no stats to verify how many companies/individuals you have “helped” in some manner
precisely how is it that you can “help me” as u said in the end (remember – I’m dense)

now all I need is a videographer, a computer genius, and a couple of sets, and I can produce something impressive like you (I wish)
